The Embassy promotes cultural relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina in different sectors, such as the promotion of the Italian language, the assignment of scholarships and the organization of specific events, with the aim of encouraging and supporting a durable and continuous educational and cultural exchange.
In particular the Cultural Office of the Embassy:
-Promotes the teaching of the Italian language at different levels: At the university level, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds Italian lectureships and departments at the Universities of Tuzla, Banja Luka and Sarajevo. These activities have contributed to make the Italian language the second most studied foreign language after English in BiH. At the secondary school level, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers grants for schools in which Italian is taught, assigns scholarships for students and organizes training courses for teachers. The Cultural Office also assists students in completing the necessary administrative procedures in order to apply for admission to Italian universities.
-Assigns scholarships: The Cultural Office assigns scholarships to students for Italian language courses as well as university level programs. For more information please visit the web site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

-Contributes to editorial projects: The Cultural Office supports the translation of Italian literary works in order to encourage the knowledge of Italian literature in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
-Supports and promotes cultural events: The Cultural Office supports and promotes different kinds of cultural events such as film festivals, exhibitions, concerts, and readings. The main events of the last year have been:
- Panel discussion on “L’italiano in piazza” in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland and the Arts College of the University of Sarajevo, in the framework of the Week of the Italian Language (November 2008).
- The second edition of the “Italian Film Festival” (February 2009).
- The first edition of “Mini- IMPUT”, public television programs festival, organized in the framework of the EUNIC cluster’s activities (February 2009).
- Opera concert by the pianist Ilaria Stella and singers Pasquale Amato and Jasmina Polic, artists of the Academy of Pesaro (March 2009).
- The “European Film Festival” in partnership with the Embassies of the Czech Republic, Portugal, Germany, Spain, France, Switzerland and Greece (May 2009).
- Participation of Lorenzo Testardi, Italian street artist, to the “Kid’s Festival”, event dedicated to children in BiH (July 2009).
- Collaboration with the project “Ars Kozara”, innovative arts exhibition in Prijedor (July 2009).
- Riccardo Muti Concert in Sarajevo with the “Orchestra del Maggio Fiorentino”, in the framework of the “Viaggi dell’amicizia” of the Ravenna Festival (July 2009).
- The “International Poetry meeting” in honor of Izet Saraljic, in partnership with the “Poetry House” of Salerno (September 2009).
- Panel discussion “L’italiano tra arte, scienza e tecnologia” (Italian in the arts, science and technology) in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland and the Arts College of Sarajevo, in the framework of the Week of the Italian Language (November 2009).
- Presentation of the local edition of the book “Sabur” by Alda Radaelli (November 2009).
